Old wood, new walls

New barn in 75% recycled wood
The barn at Noresund is the largest modern agricultural building built from recycled timber. It was described as “downright groundbreaking” in the magazine Arkitektur.
In this sub-project of SirkTRE, led by Arild Øvergaard from Norsk Massivtre, our main focus is to define the requirements for reclaimed wood in our own products. We aim to design and test new products containing reclaimed wood, thereby pushing the boundaries of sustainable construction. This involves developing innovative solutions for efficient assembly and disassembly, as well as establishing markets and customers for these new, environmentally friendly products.

Reuse in practice
When screws are used as a fastening method, the surfaces do not need to be as smooth as when using glue. This means that more wood can be reused, rather than burned for energy recovery.
